About the instructor

After 25 years as a well-known International sewing instructor, Judy Barlup has retired. During her successful career she shared her depth of knowledge in tailoring, serger sewing and other topics with an obvious love of her subject and a deep respect for her students. In her seminars and hands-on workshops, she taught confidence-building methods that achieved professional results with minimal effort. Students at all skill levels benefited from Judy's efficient and accurate techniques. The learning process was always enhanced by effective visuals: easy-to-understand demonstrations, up-close samples, numerous handouts and a large dash of humor.

For ten years Judy taught a variety of sewing classes at Lake Washington Technical College. Her business, Unique Techniques, was an umbrella for many activities. She produced the popular DVD Japanese Tailoring; had an on-line store which carried instructional materials and unique sewing notions; presented seminars and workshops for organizations, educational institutions, fabric stores and consumer shows; appeared on TV for HGTV's Sew Perfect and Sew Much More, public broadcasting stations and public access TV; and was a writer for Threads Magazine. Judy supported the American Sewing Guild as a speaker at many local, regional and national events and continues to support the group as a longtime member.

Judy served on the local board for the ASG Seattle chapter and on the national board for the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (now the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals (ASDP)).
